West of Scotland Strokeplay Championship

In 2016, after an absence of 12 years, the six West Of Scotland Area Associations reintroduced a West Of Scotland Mens Strokeplay Championship. Tommy McInally (Loudoun) was the winner with a level par 136 over 36 holes.

The West Of Scotland Championship can trace its origins back to 1950’s, but by 2004 the event, along with the West Of Scotland Team Trophy competition, was discontinued under the banner of the West Of Scotland Association, which was wound up soon after.

Ayrshire, Dumbartonshire, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire and Stirlingshire did continue to hold the West Of Scotland Boys Championships on a rotational basis after the demise of the West Of Scotland Association, and after discussion last year it was resolved by all six areas to reintroduce a Mens Strokeplay Championship, to be hosted in turn by each area.

The 2017 championship, sponsored by Glasgow based company, The Legal Partnership, was played at Dullatur Golf Club on Sunday 14th May.

Congratulations to Scottish Mens Internationalist and current Glasgow Golf Union Strokeplay Champion, Calum Fyfe (Cawder) who won with a 1 over par total of 141. In second place was Colin Edgar (Elderslie) with a 2 over par 142.

In the 2nd round an eagle 2 at the 14th hole on the way to an inward 33 saw Calum claim another notable victory.

3rd – Paul Gault (Haggs Castle) – 144
4th – Ryan Copland (Cawder) – 145
5th – Graham Rankin (Drumpellier) – 147
6th – Craig Thomson (Earl of Mar) – 149 (bih)

CSS for both rounds was 72.
