Terms of the Competition :  JUNIOR HANDICAP CHAMPIONSHIP 2024

1. A copy of the draw together with a list of all contact details as provided by the participating clubs will be sent to competitors.
2. The first named in each tie is the challenger and must offer three dates, one of which is to be at a weekend, i.e. Saturday/Sunday. The onus is on the challenger to make contact with their opponent within 14 days of the first round being published on the DGU website and within 7 days of subsequent draws from the time they are published on the DGU website. Any challenger failing to do so will forfeit the tie.The first named player has home advantage but the tie can be switched if both players agree.
3. It is the responsibility of the winner of each tie to notify the result to John Struthers (DGU Secretary) by e-mail to secretary@dgu.org.uk or by text to 07740 141176 without delay and certainly no later than 48 hours following completion date of the round to enable prompt update of the website. It should be noted that no extensions to completion dates will be granted. Any result not notified accordingly will see both players eliminated from the competition.
4. The rules of golf, adjusted by any local and temporary local rules, will apply. Boys will play from yellow tees, girls from red tees. This is a handicap competition (maximum handicap index is 36) and normal rules apply. In the event of a match finishing all square extra holes must be played in order to determine the winner.
5. For singles match play the stroke allowance is 100% of the Course Handicap.
6. In Junior competitions, caddies are not permitted and spectators must not walk close to or speak to the players during play.
7. Where a match is between a boy and a girl, the boy should play from the Yellow Tees and the Girl from the Red Tees. The following handicap adjustment should be applied if the Par is different from the yellow and red tees.
   For singles match play the stroke allowance is 100% of the Course Handicap. In addition, because the players are playing from tees with different Pars, the competitor playing over the course with the higher Par receives the difference in the Par values added to the Course Handicap after the application of the stroke allowance. (Note that as the difference in Par will always be an integer, it is appropriate to round the Course Handicap at the earlier stage).
   The following example shows how this works:

   Men’s tees: C.R. 67.2, Slope 113, PAR 71.
   Women’s tees: C.R. 72.0, Slope 129, PAR 72.

   Norman and Norma both have a Handicap Index of 15.0. Their Course Handicaps are calculated as:

   Norman: (15.0 x 113 / 113) + (67.2 – 71) = 15.0 + (-3.8) = 11.2 rounded to 11
   Norma: (15.0 x 129 / 113) + (72.0 – 72) = 17.124 + 0 = 17.124 rounded to 17

   In this case Norma receives an upward adjustment of 1.0 strokes (72 – 71) after the stroke allowance is applied.

   Norman’s Playing Handicap = Course Handicap = 11
   Norma’s Playing Handicap = Course Handicap + Difference in Par = 17 + 1 = 18

   Therefore Norma receives 7 strokes for the match.

8. The final is scheduled to be played at Helensburgh Golf Club on Saturday 31st August but may be changed to avoid finals of other competitions.
