Ewen Ferguson

Ewen has been forced to withdraw from the Scotland’s Men’s team for next week’s European defence due to the recurrence of a hand injury.

The Bearsden player was forced to retire after only six holes of today’s final Open qualifier at Gailes Links as a result of the problem.

Walker Cup winner Ferguson, who was also unable to take up his amateur invite at last week’s SSE Scottish Hydro Challenge, is receiving support for the injury from the sportscotland institute of sport.

The 19-year-old helped Scotland win the European title in Sweden last year, but his place for next week’s event in France has now gone to Glencruitten left-hander Robert MacIntyre.

MacIntyre, 19, the first reserve for the team, recently reached the final of The Amateur Championship in Wales and is the reigning Scottish Amateur champion.
